Rachin was part of New Zealand’s squads for the 2016 and 2018 Under-19 World Cups. After the 2018 edition, the International Cricket Council (ICC) recognized him as one of the rising stars of the tournament.
In October 2018, Rachin made his List A debut for New Zealand A against Pakistan A, and shortly after, he made his first-class debut against the same team. By June 2020, Rachin secured a contract with Wellington for the 2020-21 domestic cricket season. In November of that year, he was named to the New Zealand A team for practice matches against the visiting West Indies team, where he shone with a century, scoring 112 runs in the first match.
The year 2023 was a breakthrough season for Rachin. He amassed 578 runs in the 2023 World Cup, including three centuries, and ended the year with 820 ODI runs at an average of 41 and a strike rate of 108.03. His stellar performance earned him the 2023 ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award.
In February 2024, during the first Test of South Africa’s tour of New Zealand, Rachin made headlines by scoring 240 runs, his maiden Test century. This remarkable feat is a New Zealand batter’s highest maiden Test century.
